The Center for Education, Business, and the Arts (CEBA) presents the 2012 Little Hollywood Shootout film competition, taking place March 14-16, 2012 in scenic Kane County. The two-day competition, set in the heart of Utah’s “Little Hollywood,” give aspiring filmmakers a once-in-a-lifetime chance to shoot and produce short films on the sites featured in such feature films as “The Outlaw Josey Wales” and “The Planet of the Apes.”
The race starts at high noon at the world famous Parry Lodge in Kanab, Utah. Locations and prop assignments for the film competition will be given to competitors at the beginning of each race, which concludes 49 ½ hours later with a sprint to the finish line back at the Parry Lodge.
The 2nd year of the “Shootout” features three competitive divisions appealing to a broad range of filmmakers. The “Targeted Promotion” Division will have competitors write, produce and direct a promotional film branding Kane County as a scenic destination, with location options and themes determined at the start of the race. A number of valuable prizes are up for grabs in the “Targeted” division, including a Sony X1 camera rental package from Lumenous, a lighting rental package from Redman Productions, cash prizes, and special screenings during the DOCUTAH International Documentary Film Festival in September, 2012. In addition, the overall winning team will turn their film into a commercial for Kane County that will be aired on the television show “At Your Leisure.”
The “Freestyle Open” Division is designed for novice and beginning filmmakers of all ages looking to try their hand at the craft. Competitors will vie for cash awards, and other prizes such as dinner at Parry Lodge, while the winning entries will be screened at special events during the DOCUTAH festival, in addition to a trophy and bragging rights.
The “education” division is open to high school students and please contact CEBA at (435) 899-0443 for details.
Registration for the “Targeted Promotional” Division is $30, while the entry fee for the “Freestyle Open” Division is just $15 and the “education” division is $10.
