ANNOUNCING: IAPFilms, in association with Kanab Creek Journals, will be premiering their latest documentary on Saturday, March 15th, just before the award show for this years Little Hollywood Shootout. The documentary presents some of Kanab, Utah’s unique history as the first incorporated city in the US to have an all women town council. The film, entitled “Americas First All Women Town Council”, will premiere at the Kanab City Library at 4pm on the 15th and the film makers and reenactors will be on hand for a Q&A. The event is open to the public and participants of the Little Hollywood Shootout and DVD’s will be available for purchase. The Premiere is a part of a larger effort to expand the guerrilla film making competition into a film makers retreat which provides entertainment, education and networking opportunities to participants and the community. Kanab has a rich history as being Utah’s Little Hollywood and the Little Hollywood Shootout is taking aim to bring some of that grandeur back to the area and expect the event to expand over the coming years to become a sought after independent film making event. And to kick things off we have Warren Workman and Robert Trim as special guests for our education series. It’s the story, silly and Apple just proved it with their new Super Bowl Ad , which they chose to release online rather than over the air. That isn’t to say there isn’t a place for 4K or even 8K in the ever changing movie making landscape, but for the indy film maker, there is no reason for you to not tell your story. If you  have any desire to use film as the medium to tell great stories, you don’t need to wait for film school. The basic tools are all around you and well within reach. But for the novice who whats to wants to make films, we need to step back from the talk of technology but start at the beginning. Where do you start. You have your iPhone. You’ve event purchased an external microphone to pick up better audio. What now. Story. Film makers are storytellers. And good films, start with a good story. This article is not intended to tel you how to make a good story, but to tell you if you don’t have a good story, nor how to tell a good story, STOP NOW. The Little Hollywood Shoot Out is excited to announce that Warren Workman will be joining us for this years Little Hollywood Shoot Out. Not only will he be one of our guest judges, but he will also be presenting as part of our Little Hollywood Education Series. Join us in welcoming Warren to the Little Hollywood Shoot Out and gain some valuable insights from Utah’s film making insider. Warren Workman knows film making in Utah. Workman is the marketing director at Arrowstorm Entertainment, creator of “Utah’s Oscars” the Filmed in Utah Awards (March 29th at The Grand Theater), a film instructor at Salt Lake Community College and segment producer of the KJZZ Movie Show. Over the past 4 years Workman has been visiting film sets, interviewing film makers, promoting films in Utah through his show Film Buzz. Some of the local filmmakers he has interviewed over the years including T.C. Christensen (Ephraims Resuce, 17 Miracles) Ryan Little (Saints and Soldiers) and Garrett Batty (The Saratov Approach). He has also interviewed famous celebrities such as William H Macy (Fargo, Wild Hogs) Sean Astin (Rudy, Goonies) Kevin Sorbo (Hercules, Andromeda) and Danny Trejo (Machete, Spy Kids) just to name a few. The Little Hollywood Shoot Out has been an exiting event for the past four years and this year we are growing. To up the ante, we have invited several industry veterans to come share their wealth of film making knowledge. Through lectures and workshops, you will gain valuable tips, tricks and insights. Introducing the Little Hollywood Film Education Series! And to kick off this years education series we are  excited to announce Robert Trim will be joining us for this years event and will provide a wealth of knowledge in two presentations, the first of which will be focused on Scene Blocking and the second will cover The Six Mistakes of Beginners. Robert Trim is an Assoc. Professor at Utah Valley University, specializing in Digital Media focuses of Cinematography, Production and Digital Asset Management. Robert has been in every aspect of the media industry including; regional and national commercial production, independent and studio film production, NEWS investigative series producer, education and corporate media productions. Over the decades, he has won 11 Emmys and several regional and national awards. Robert just released the first book of its kind, focusing on the on-set position of Digital Imaging Technician (DIT) to support the teaching of digital asset management course. This core course to all things digital, isn’t offered anywhere at the university level until now. Robert also sets on the board for the Motion Picture Association of Utah, co-ordinating internships and educational opportunities for budding filmmakers. Please join us for this years event. This years winner of the Utah Film Commissions Spot on contest has been announced. It has is a beautiful day dreamy look and taps into a vital moment for most film makers. As children we see even the smallest things as grand, placing ourselves inside wonderful stories. We let the eye of the imagination run wild and find ourselves as more than we are. And there is this moment in life when your realize that your epic imagination can be shared by all. The moment when your realize the magic of movies and you are one and the same and the imaginative storyteller in you starts to become a reality. As I watched the short, it triggered memories of my own youth and inspired my continued drive to tell epic stories.
