Little Hollywood Writers Competition

Little Hollywood Writers Competition

Over these last months since the conclusion of the Little Hollywood Shootout, we hosted a writing competition, sponsored by IAPFilms and Kanab Creek Journals. The purpose of the competition was two fold. First, to keep the fire burning for Little Hollywood, but also to find a screenwriter for a feature film to be produced by the competition’s sponsors. There were a lot of great entree’s and it was extremely difficult to whittle it down, with the production team falling in love with different scripts for different reasons. After a lot of discussion and getting on the same page regarding what they were looking for it was finally narrowed down to three and then finally one.   “It was a difficult choice because we had a number of really great entry’s. We would have done well with any of the finalists.” –Roger Blomquist Ph.D, Producer IAPFilms     With much excitement, Adam Mast was chosen as winner and as such will be the writer for an upcoming feature film. Adam was also writer for winning team that took home best film in this years Shootout for their entry, “The Wild Mis-Adventures of Jesse James and Billy the Kid”, which can be seen “HERE“! It is exciting to see films getting made and talented artisans finding opportunities though events like this. Not only does the Little Hollywood events provide an outlet for creation, but the networking it provides is an important resource for up and coming film makers. Adam will begin writing immediately and if you would like to stay updated on the progress of the film, follow IAPFilms on their facebook and...
Mickey Rooney Dies at 93

Mickey Rooney Dies at 93

What a day for good bye’s. Just got news that Mickey Rooney died as well and my heart drooped. One of my earliest memories of watching film in School was Shakespeare’s  a “Mid Summers Night Dream”, when I was in the 2nd or 3rd grade. We still used traditional film reels and projectors in the classroom. Two images remain. The donkey scene when Bottom say’s “I feel a bit harry about the face”, and Mickey Rooney playing Puck. He was born Joe Yule, Jr. in 1920 and made his first appearance on the stage at 17 months of age as part of the vaudeville performances put on by his parents. Rooney’s career on the silver screen began at age 6 where he played Mickey McGuire in dozens of short films based on the Toonerville Trolley cartoons. In 1932, he picked up the stage name of Mickey Rooney. Mickey Rooney has had an amazing career which spanned most of his life. In his time Laurence Olivier had called Rooney “the greatest actor of them all.” As an entertainer and performer he new how to put on a show and drew crowds wherever he went. And with over 200 movies to his credit Mickey Rooney is a part of our film heritage and has created a lasting impact in the film industry and upon our culture.   It is a melancholy time as we see the last of our classic heroes and some of our newer ones, pass the torch of legacy to the next generation. A little something is lost. A few things forgotten. Times change and we move on. But with hope I...
